In addition to the exciting product news we announced today, we’ve also announced an update to our brand identity.
When he founded Solace, our CEO Craig Betts modeled our full name after Cisco Systems, which was famous for tackling a one-time software problem (IP routing) in hardware. And the name Solace Systems served us well as we established ourselves, because it underscored an important early differentiator – our hardware approach. But times have changed, and today we provide the world’s best data movement technology, which you can deploy as software, hardware in the cloud or a combination of all three. To better reflect that flexible approach we’ve dropped the “Systems” from our company name. I think our new more succinct name lets the word Solace shine, emphasizing the fact that we bring “solace” (i.e. comfort, consolation, or relief) to architects, application developers and operations folks who are tired of the hassles associated with traditional messaging, streaming and WAN optimization products.
As part of this name change, we also acquired the domain name www.solace.com – six letters, short and sweet!
We could have just dropped the word “Systems” from our logo, but really wanted to establish a new look that reflects our more open offering and attitude. The most obvious change is the new typeface, which gives the letters more room to breathe and better flow.
Beyond that we chose to keep the colors, but darkened them a bit for a more contemporary look, and we went with a more understated representation of our signature circle.
The orange arc does much more than just pay homage to the orange circle we and our customers have come to know and love. First, it evokes the rising sun to represent the constant rebirth of technology. Each day is a new opportunity to modernize, and Solace gives you the flexibility to strive for that kind of evergreen improvement. Second, the arc represents Solace’s ability to help you connect between dissimilar things seamlessly – applications, infrastructures and APIs of all shapes, sizes and eras. We make the barriers between them disappear, building bridges just like the one now on display between the “l” and “e” in our name. 🙂
See You Out There
Thanks for coming on our journey with us as Solace Systems, and as we go forward as just Solace. We hope you agree that we’re improving the way data flows in modern information architectures, and we’re committed to working our tails off every day to deliver on that difference.
